Texas firm Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr P.C. is preparing for a leadership transition at the start of 2025, when outgoing CEO Phil Appenzeller will be replaced after 10 years by real estate partner E. David Coligado. The pair said that the firm is optimistic overall about 2025, saying that under the second Trump administration, they expect deal volume to increase.
What Keeps Them Up At Night: Despite considering themselves well-positioned, they are aware that the Texas market has not been kind to mid-size firms.
"When I started practicing, there were a lot of Texas firms that don't exist anymore," Coligado said. "For us as a mid-size firm, we've withheld the urge to merge … There aren't many mid-size, full-service firms left, but there's still plenty of clients that want this kind of law firm."
The firm has also been cautiously exploring AI tools and focusing on talent retention — as well as preparing to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2025.
