Munsch Hardt Recognized as Champion of Justice

Oct 24, 2016

The Texas Access to Justice Commission recently recognized Munsch Hardt Kopf & Harr, P.C. (Munsch Hardt) for its creative efforts to raise awareness and financial support for its 2016 Champions of Justice Law Firm Competition.

The Texas Access to Justice Commission is charged with developing and implementing initiatives designed to expand access to, and enhance the quality of, justice in civil legal matters for low-income Texans. The annual, statewide competition provides a fun and energetic way for firms to compete against each other while raising money to support the cause. Although the recognition is for the law firm, it is the individual lawyers and staff member within each firm who contribute.

“Giving back to our communities is a trait that is deeply rooted in Munsch Hardt’s culture, and we are humbled to be able to do so because of the support of our clients,” said Phil Appenzeller, CEO of Munsch Hardt. “The Texas Access to Justice Competition is one that we look forward to participating in each year. This year we enjoyed brainstorming way to encourage participation from within our firm, and as always, a friendly competition really helped move the needle. Munsch Hardt enjoyed participating in the state-wide event, and we are honored to have been recognized by the Commission for our creative efforts.”

Munsch Hardt hosted an internal “Sticky Fly Fundraiser” in all three offices – Dallas, Houston and Austin. As part of the fundraiser, the Managing Shareholders of each office stood on chairs while their attorneys and employees purchased strips of duct tape that were used to literally stick them to the wall. Once the purchased tape was applied, the chair was removed from beneath the Shareholders to determine who would hang on the wall the longest. As a whole, Munsch Hardt successfully raised more than $7,000 for the Access to Justice Campaign.

The Texas Access to Justice Commission recognized Munsch Hardt for its creativity by presenting a Champion of Justice plaque at the Access to Justice Pro Bono Week Reception on Monday, October 24. On behalf of Munsch Hardt, Austin Managing Shareholder David Mattka accepted the award from Texas Supreme Court Justice Eva Guzman, the Supreme Court’s liaison to the Commission.
